By now many have received our "speedy" email announcement about the birth of our son. However, it really took us awhile to name him and we have even changed the spelling of his first name! We announced "Brenn An" but settled on "Brenn En". Our apologies for any communication confusion—we just wanted to get the word out as soon as possible, but we believe strongly in the importance of words and language, that we took longer to name him fully. So, here it is officially for all: Brennen Kristján Miller Pronunciation Guide Both names are pronouced as they look. Don't let the accent throw you. Kristján is said like "Christian" in English. Brennen is a name from Celtic roots in Ireland which means "prince". Kristján is Icelandic for "follower of Christ". Since a portion of my family hales from Icelandic roots, and they produced some of the best poets and storytellers the world has ever known, I'm thrilled that we found an Icelandic name that we both liked. If some of you think the spelling is obscure or silly, just be thankful that we didn't find a name that uses the ð or þ characters which I would have loved to use. :)

Our baby Brennan was born this morning at 5:58 am. It was a whirlwind event, but we're still exhausted. Brennan weighed 8 lbs. 10 oz. and was 20.5 inches long. Mother and baby are doing well. Here's Brennan's first photo ever (taken on my cell phone for want of a better camera at the time). Brennan's first day in the world. |

The women from Church of the Redeemer showered us with gifts, support and blessings at the Kerson's house. As the only male invited (unless our little one is actually a boy ;) I was blessed to see the women of the church come together in such a way and to be so incredibly generous—especially in praying over us. We are so grateful. Below are a few photos of the fun festivities. Guessing with green string. |

Danielle and baby rocking. |
This weekend we celebrated Danielle---that is, we celebrated her birthday. As we're awaiting the arrival of our little viking boy or girl, a number of us collaborated to present her with a green gliding rocking chair, among other things. Danielle and I spent Friday night at General Boyd's B&B in Lake Geneva, enjoying a little time away. We were surprised at how refreshing it was to get away from the demands of work and home. I actually left my Macintosh at home, which many of you will know is practically inconceivable. :) On Saturday, we toured around downtown Lake Geneva, walked the dock, and headed back to Evanston for a baby shower---which Danielle says was amazingly wonderful. Thank you all for your continued prayers. Preparations are coming along well, and we remain very excited to welcome our little one. Please pray especially for timing, as we have a potentially long drive to the hospital's Alternative Birthing Center. Incidentally, we were also interviewed by National Public Radio (NPR) for a special on midwives in Illinois. We'll let you know if we hear of it hitting the airwaves. Life is an adventure. Lake Geneva, with new shades. |

Revisiting where it all began. |
Today commemorates the first day we ever met. During our honeymoon we stopped by the original Alterra shop where we met each other in the company of excellent friends, following an opera in which Erin Burgoyne (York) had performed. Praise God for leading us to find one another, and for using our mutually deep friendship with the Scharnick family in the process. For those who are counting... we have eight more weeks until our baby is scheduled to arrive!

This is the first portrait we have of our little one in the womb. It is amazing to be able to peek into the mystery of life that God is knitting together, as Psalm 139 reminds us. For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. We thought you might like to see him or her as well. The entire family is doing well and we're so looking forward to welcoming our little one into the world. Praise God from whom all blessings flow... We are grateful for your prayers always.
